Phillip Island lies in the southern coast of Australia, and is round about 1.5 hours drive southeast from Melbourne city. It has been a popular day trip destination to many for its charming scenery, nature and outdoor activities. As for me, my main reason was to experience the Penguin Parade and enjoy the tranquility of this island.
After checking in to Silverwater Resort in San Remo town where I stayed for a night, I explored the place for its facilities and was really impressed. There’s both indoor and outdoor pool, tennis court, arcade/gaming room, gym, cozy lounge area, and restaurant/bar.
Not to mention the impeccable customer service, and spacious room with a balcony overlooking a rolling parkland with jumping pillows. The resort was clean and well maintained. Silverwater Resort is perfect for families since there’s not only plenty of facilities, but they also offer apartment units from 1 up to 3 bedrooms. However, you may forget about connecting to the wifi which was capped at 250MB that I could barely connect through my mobile phone.
Just 10 minutes drive from Silverwater Resort was an oceanfront restaurant called The Cape Kitchen, where I had a late lunch. I had the best seat in the house next to a large panoramic window, where I could sip on a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, whilst enjoying the beautiful blue skies and getting swept away by the breathtaking ocean view.
The food was pretty average to be honest. That didn’t really bother me as I had my attention on what’s outside the window. The Pork Belly was okay but the skin wasn’t at all crispy. The Red Snapper tasted slightly bland and the squid ink spaghetti that came with it was overcooked. Dessert – Eton Mess on the other hand, was a pleaser. It was an enjoyable ending to this meal before I headed out for fresh air, ocean breezes and photographs.
The Cape Kitchen also seemed to have a beautiful setting for wedding receptions or just about any special occasions with that ample space. I highly recommend this place as I still see vivid images of this gorgeous backdrop in my head.
Another 10 minutes drive from The Cape Kitchen will bring you to the Penguin Parade. Unfortunately, there are strict rules of no photography and video of penguins allowed. Temperature drops after sunset, so be sure you are dressed enough to keep yourself warm. Enjoy watching those cute little penguins!
