Thai people are not only famous for their warm and friendly hospitality, but also their amazing food. So far, I haven’t heard of anyone who doesn’t enjoy Thai food or Thai dessert at least. The distinct flavours and exotic spices used in Thai dishes really do thrill your taste buds. As a Malaysian, I could easily relate my love for Thai food because Thailand and Malaysia are neighbouring countries. Some of the food served in local restaurants are somewhat an influence of Thai cuisine. My ultimate favourite has to be Tom Yum. Any Thai restaurant that serves awesome Tom Yum, I’m sold. Oh, not to mention it’s a great hangover remedy too! My other favourites also include Pad Thai, Som Tam, Massaman Curry, Moo Ping, Mango Sticky Rice, etc… OMG! I’m salivating already! It’s been a while since we’ve gone café-hunting around Klang Valley. Not because we were lazy, but merely due to our very busy schedules lately that’s draining us out. Pfffftt! We’ve dedicated most of our weekends to just resting, besides spending time with my loved ones and managing some personal stuff. Yes, I know we still need to eat but we’ve been dependent on home-cooked and also home delivery services. Obviously I’m not going to starve myself silly! Anyway, speaking of spending quality time with loved ones. My bestie told me she really wanted to check out this new café in TTDI called The Other Half. So I thought to myself “This is perfect!! Finally somebody suggested a new place to explore and nobody needs to scratch his/her head trying to answer that million dollar question – where to eat?!”. Back in my uni days in Australia, I used to survive on instant noodles and canned food when I was broke (because I spent all my money eating out and buying unnecessary stuff). And then I told myself I would never go back to living that life again because instant noodles are known to be harmful for our health. I was more afraid on the immediate and obvious effects which are losing my hair and bloating. But of course every once in a blue moon, I will consume when desperate. Ok, maybe twice a year.
So last week, a good friend of mine gave me a packet of instant noodles from Korea. Not sure if you’ve ever tasted the famous Samyang Spicy Korean Ramen that will leave your tongue burning, eyes rolling and body sweating? I’ve had it once some time ago and obviously didn’t find it enjoyable to even think about the second. As if that wasn’t bad enough, she challenged me to a higher level, which was 2X the spiciness! I’m a big fan of spicy food and I love curry. I’m probably the only one in the family who needs chilli padi or sambal with almost any dish (western food is exceptional lah). However, this Samyang 2X Spicy Hot Chicken Flavour Ramen was outrageous!!
Well, at least I didn’t have to do it alone since Mr Gadget volunteered to participate and share the love/pain with me. You’ll have to watch the video we filmed (link above) in our humble kitchen to see if we survived the Samyang 2X Spicy Ramen challenge!
Please make sure you like and comment if you enjoyed watching!
September has been good. Not only because there were many long weekends, but also because it’s my birthday month. I’ve been treated to so much good food that it’s starting to show on the waistline. But it’s okay, I’ll deal with it next month. After all, I don’t want to deprive myself of delicious food especially that I like eating, and it’s a month to celebrate! When Mr Gadget asked what I wanted for dinner, I somehow had this big craving for steak. I kind of ran out of ideas where to eat and thought of Prime in Le Méridien Hotel. It was not too far away from home, and I really wanted to avoid the Friday rush hour traffic. Of course, Prime is also reputable and is remarkably one of KL’s best steakhouse. Never have I ever thought there will be a day where I’d actually step into an European fine dining restaurant in Penang. Nevertheless, I’ve always been curious in terms of the quality and service compared to KL as it’s a norm for me to either have local food, my grandma’s cooking, or at most, café food when I’m back in this island. Since it was Mr Gadget‘s birthday, I wanted to make it a little special and for us to experience one of the best fine dining restaurants, Farquhar Mansion in Penang on this special occasion. This trip was also extra special for us since we traveled all the way up north for our pre-wedding shoot. Continue reading “Farquhar Mansion @ George Town, Penang”
The name Naughty Nuri’s is no stranger for swine lovers. From Bali to Kuala Lumpur, Naughty Nuri’s opened its first branch at Desa Sri Hartamas in 2014. They now have other outlets within Klang Valley namely SS15 Subang, KL Life Centre, and Atria PJ as of today. Those of you who have been would already know that food at Naughty Nuri’s are served in big portions – perfect for friends and family in groups. The more the merrier mah! In our experience for this review, it was no exception as well. I was asked to sample their latest Signature BBQ Smoky Spare Ribs and other must try dishes. Together with my loved ones, we enjoyed a wonderful Naughty Nuri “pig-out”!
APW, short for Art Printing Works is a creative space for different private events / markets such as art, fashion, music, product launch and even community yoga. This space spreads a very positive energetic vibe somehow, and there’s bound to be an event or activity happening every week. It is no wonder a hot spot, where all the young and hip are, to see and be seen. Not forgetting the F&B outlets that’s also drawing the crowd in. Somehow in the past it was quite the opposite for me. I’ve been to APW a number of times but I find it way too warm during the day, that it would discourage me to even think about heading there. But since we really wanted brunch at Breakfast Thieves and thought APW was a nice place for photos, we quickly head over at 10AM before the crowd built up (and before we both turn into grumpy cats). Am I the last one to Mr Chew’s? Seems like everyone I know have been here except myself. I’ve seen a lot about this place on my social media feed, but I didn’t really know what to expect as I didn’t pay much attention to the details. If everyone raves about it, should be worth checking out right?! Once every month, we would actually explore somewhere “fancy” for dinner just to celebrate…Us. This time, it happened to be on the day of Colony’s official launch at Vipod Residences – a stylish and exclusive co-working space in the heart of city. So for us, we decided to kill two birds with one stone. Dressed up for two occasions, and they’re only about a kilometer away. Continue reading “Mr Chew’s Chino Latino Bar @ WOLO Bukit Bintang”
It was one of those rare occasions that I would be spotted in the city for lunch on a Sunday. Futhermore, it was in a mall. You know lah, some of them are always swarmed with people over weekends. To me, having meals in malls are almost always due to convenience. I’m one of those who gets agitated when there’s a long queue, and don’t deal too well with crowds. If it wasn’t because I had some shopping to do, I wouldn’t have ended up in Wild Honey, Pavilion. Continue reading “Wild Honey @ Pavilion, K.L.”
Very often before Sunday comes, I would have decided where I wanted to go for brunch on that day. However, Mr Gadget had to bring his car to the workshop, not knowing if any of them will be open. We decided to just try our luck in Damansara Utama since there are so many workshops in that area, we guessed there must be at least one that was open. Otherwise, we would’ve continued searching in other places. As it needed about 1.5 hours to be fixed, we had to find ways to kill time. What better ways than having a snack and coffee? We had a heavy breakfast before at home, so we couldn’t exactly fit in a full course lunch. Besides car workshops, there’s also plenty of cafés and dessert bars along that stretch of shophouses. We randomly entered into Frisson Coffee Bar, which was almost full house already by the time we got there. Continue reading “Frisson Coffee Bar @ Damansara Utama, P.J”
