I know, I know.. My past couple of blogs have about the beautiful city of Penang. There’s just too many nice places to explore in this island that I really want to share with you. In my last post, I mentioned that we were here a few weeks back for our pre-wedding shoot. We went from one bridal house after another, and flipped through tons of albums to finally decide on Eastern & Oriental Hotel as our favourite location for the shoot. There was one condition the hotel had : in order to have our photos taken within the premise, we needed to stay at least a night here since it was strictly for in-house guests only. “Where in Penang are we staying this time?” I asked. As always, his response would be “It’s up to you. You know the budget, you choose.” At times a bit stressful, but most times I enjoy exploring the options. Good thing is both our preference would be in a charming boutique hotel. I’ve always had some names on top of my head as I came across them during my last stay. Given a short notice, I did a quick search on these places for the best possible deals that weekend. Most of the familiar names I knew were all booked out. Either that, or they were overpriced. Little did I know then, it was Georgetown World Heritage City Day weekend. Muntri Grove is a charming heritage boutique hotel along Lebuh Muntri, Penang under the George Town Heritage & Hotels group. The hotel was part of a row of ten old heritage houses built for workers serving the wealthy families then. Though restored, some fabrics of the building had been retained so that guests can experience the essence of Straits Chinese houses in the 19th century. For the past few years, Penang has been sprawling with hotels ranging from backpackers’ lodges to high end luxurious chains. This is no surprise as the island has been a favourite holiday destination for many because of its heritage charm and delicious street food.
